Infrastructure Key For Brazilian 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games

By Ginny Naish

The government of Brazil is about to spend nearly $880 billion on infrastructure related projects leading to the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.brazil world cup 2014

Added to the $280 billion that has already been invested since 2007, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvas recent announcement that $878 billion would be spent between now and the time of the Rio Olympics has given a major boost to the country's preparations to host two of the world's biggest sporting events.

Hundreds of thousands of athletes and spectators from all corners of the globe will be descending on Brazil between 2014 and 2016 and this emerging world power is more than ready to take its place in the spotlight. At a ceremony at the Brazilian foreign affairs ministry last Monday, President Lula da Silva announced a programme of massive airport investment in time for the 2014 World Cup.

The funds will be invested in the airports of the twelve host cities, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Cuiab, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaos, Porto Alegre, Salvador, Recife and Natal.

The announcement was made in conjunction with the official launch of the tender process for the country's first bullet train scheme. Both of these infrastructure initiatives will dispel any doubts regarding Brazil's readiness for the brazil world cup 2014.

The bullet train's area is home to some 40,000,000 people, 20% of the Brazilian population, with firms and industries that together generate a 3rd of Brazils GDP.

At the launch President Lula da Silva said that provision of a strong railway network has been overlooked for the last 15 years. He went on to promise that the government would "furnish Brazil with good roads, waterways and train line systems, and this process has begun".

Many countries have expressed an interest in working with the Brazilian government on these projects including European, Chines and Japanese infrastructure companies.brazil world cup 2014

All of the major infrastructure works are planned to contribute socially and environmentally for the Brazilian people for many years after the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games
