Fifty one teams set off on the road to Poland and Ukraine in the late summer and it is no surprise to see holders and world champions Spain on maximum points along with Germany and the Netherlands. Russia and Norway, revived by Egil Olsen, have also made a perfect start, while Montenegro have been hugely impressive in their debut campaign.
Group AGermany's four wins included a 3-0 against Turkey in Berlin which featured two of Miroslav Klose's six goals so far. Worse was to follow for Turkey four days later with a 1-0 defeat in Azerbaijan that coach Guus Hiddink described as "one of the worst days of my career". Austria sit second after maintaining their unbeaten start with a 4-4 draw in Belgium on 12 October, Martin Harnik equalising in the 93rd minute.
Group BDick Advocaat's Russia top the section thanks to three away victories, the most recent an impressive 3-2 success against the Republic of Ireland, Aleksandr Kerzhakov, Alan Dzagoev and Roman Shirokov securing a three-goal lead before Ireland's belated response. The Russians lost their only home game, 1-0 against Slovakia in September, yet Vladimír Weiss's team subsequently lost 3-1 in Armenia and lie fourth after a 1-1 home draw with the second-placed Irish.
Group CItaly's campaign began with a scare as they trailed Estonia 45 minutes into coach Cesare Prandelli's first competitive fixture but the Azzurri responded with strikes by Antonio Cassano and Leonardo Bonucci. After their 12 October fixture with Serbia was abandoned because of crowd trouble in Genoa, UEFA awarded Italy a 3-0 forfeit win that gives them 10 points from a possible 12. Italy's only dropped points came in a goalless draw in Northern Ireland. Nigel Worthington's side had already upset Slovenia 1-0 in Maribor but were held 1-1 by the Faroe Islands, whose hero turned out to be goalkeeper Jákup Mikkelsen. The 40-year-old had come out of international retirement after an injury to Gunnar Nielsen.
Group DFrance's new coach, Laurent Blanc, made the worst possible start with a 1-0 home reverse against Belarus, Sergei Kislyak scoring with four minutes remaining. However, Les Bleus responded with successive 2-0 victories over Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Luxembourg. Belarus remain unbeaten in second after finishing their autumn programme with a 2-0 home win over Albania, hitherto the group's surprise package.
Group EThe FIFA World Cup runners-up boast 12 points and the competition's eight-goal leading scorer in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar – the last two in a 4-1 victory over Sweden on 12 October. New Sweden coach Erik Hamrén saw his side leapfrogged into second spot by Hungary, who responded to an opening loss to the Swedes with three straight wins including a 2-1 success in Finland achieved by Balász Dzsudzsák's 94th-minute winner and an 8-0 rout of San Marino, who went down by the same scoreline to Finland.
Group FCroatia are firmly on course for the finals with ten points from four matches – the latest a 3-0 defeat of Malta leaving them two points clear of unbeaten Greece. Fernando Santos had a scare in his opening qualifier when Greece trailed Georgia for 69 minutes before Nikos Spyropoulos's leveller. Temuri Ketsbaia's third-placed Georgians have kept the positive results coming: they held Israel, beat Malta and would have won in Latvia but for an added-time goal.
Group GZlatko Kranjčar's Montenegro have made a dream start, heading the group after collecting three wins – all 1-0 – and a goalless draw against England. Mirko Vučinić captured the headlines for his goals against Wales and Switzerland but the Balkan team drew at Wembley without him, and are still to concede together with Belarus. England have beaten Bulgaria and Switzerland, who bounced back with a 4-1 win against a Wales side seeking a new coach after John Toshack resigned in the wake of the September loss in Montenegro.
Group HIt was Egil Olsen who took the Norwegians to their first World Cups in the 1990s and 'Drillo' has got them dreaming again after overseeing wins over Iceland, Portugal and Cyprus. "I am the first to admit our attacking play leaves a lot to be desired, but defensively we are world class," said the 68-year-old after September's 1-0 home success against Portugal. For the Portuguese that defeat followed a 4-4 home draw with Cyprus under Agostinho Oliveira's temporary stewardship, but since Paulo Bento's appointment as full-time successor to Carlos Queiroz, wins over Denmark and Iceland have rekindled their hopes.
Group I Spain picked up where they left off in South Africa by starting their European title defence with wins over Liechtenstein (4-0) and Lithuania (3-1). They faced sterner resistance against Scotland at Hampden Park on 12 October, substitute Fernando Llorente striking a 79th-minute winner after their hosts had fought back from two down. Riedl has the luxury of knowing that his side will be meeting the runners-up from Group B in the last four with the return match of the tie in Jakarta on Sunday, December 19. But with three teams still in the running for the top two spots in that group, the Austrian will be leaving nothing to chance and intends to scout all of his potential opponents on Wednesday.

With his side playing the Thais on Tuesday evening, Riedl intends to give his players a couple of days off after the match while he takes an early morning flight on Wednesday to Vietnam with Iman Arif, the chairman of the national team board, and the Indonesian Football Federation's chief scout Sutan Harharah.

Said Riedl's assistant coach Wolfgang Pikal: "We're not sure who's going to finish second in Group B so we are just trying to get ready.

"We are sending two teams to Vietnam to see the matches live. Coach Riedl will go with the chairman of our national team board to Hanoi to watch the match between Vietnam and Singapore while our chief scout will go to the other match to see Philippines play against Myanmar to get as much information as possible and help our players to play better."

Although Indonesia are the only team with a perfect record in the competition, Pikal is reluctant to consider his side as tournament favourites.

"I don't think that Indonesia are the favourites. I believed that Vietnam are still the favourites," said the Austrian. "They are the winners of the last competition and in their first match they played very, very well. They moved the ball around well and they have very good support.

Russia and Qatar to host 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, respectively

The FIFA Executive Committee has chosen Russia to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, while the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ was awarded to Qatar.

FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter announced the result of the FIFA Executive Committee's vote on Thursday 2 December 2010 in Zurich’s Messe.

The contenders for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, other than Russia, were England, a joint bid from Belgium and the Netherlands, and a joint bid from Spain and Portugal.

Meanwhile, for the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, Australia, Japan, Korea Republic and the USA were competing with Qatar.

Here are the full results of the voting rounds:

22 members of the FIFA Executive Committee were entitled to vote. 12 votes were needed for an absolute majority and therefore to obtain the right to host the FIFA World Cup.

With the pan-Asian sporting games heading to China in 2010 it is the hope of the people of Guangzhou that these games can do to their city what the Olympic did for Beijing and to a lesser extent what the World Expo has done for Shanghai. After winning the right to host the games in 2004 (as the sole bidder) the city has been working furiously to give itself a major makeover in time to impress its major neighbours.
Guangzhouhas always been considered one of China's largest and most important cities and has been chosen by the central government to be the symbol of China for this regionally important event. The games themselves include 42 different events including many that would never make the Olympics (think chess, dragon boat racing and kabaddi!) that give it a distinctive Asian flavour.get medals for asian country china,korea,japan is domination

But what does it mean for Guangzhou? It means that the central government have been throwing trucks of money at the city, (especially because private partnerships have been hard to come by during the GFC), it's a poorly kept secret that the games have blown way over initially budgets and despite the head of the Guangzhou Organising Committee assuring that the games would be kept below 2 billion Yuan ($293 million US dollars) it was last estimated that the games have already cost up to 4 billion. This exorbitant amount of money has paid for the construction of half-a-dozen new sports stadiums, countless citywide beautification projects, the relaying of major roads and two new extensive subway lines, as well as a ferocious education campaign instructing the citizens of Guangzhou about acting in a more 'civilized way' when the games start.
Make no mistake though; the investment is just about worth it. Despite the 2008 Olympic Games being almost entirely written off by the government the infrastructure and projects create in the lead up to that event have left a lasting impact on Beijing well after the carnival had packed up and moved on. JAKARTA – Persija Jakarta kembali akan melakoni laga ketat saat menjamu tim tangguh Sriwijaya FC (SFC) pada laga lanjutan Djarum Indonesia Super League (DISL) 2010/2011 di Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno (SUGBK), Senayan, Jakarta, Rabu (3/11). Sebelumnya, di tempat yang sama, Persija sukses menghancurkan rival abadinya, Persib Bandung 3-0, Sabtu akhir pekan lalu.

Kemenangan atas Persib itu menjadi salah satu pemicu motivasi para punggawa Macan Kemayoran. Selain itu, Persija juga akan memaksimalkan motivasi berlipat dari sang pelatih, Rahmad Darmawan, yang tiga musim kemarin sukses menukangi SFC, serta tujuh mantan pemain Laskar Wong Kito yang kini berkostum Persija.

Bagi RD, panggilan karib Rahmad Darmawan, laga ini memang mempunyai arti tersendiri. Kendati demikian, pria yang juga perwira menengah marinir ini, enggan mengusung dendam saat bertemu mantan tim asuhannya.

“Itu masa lalu. Sekarang saya fokus di Persija. Yang ada di pikiran saya adalah memberikan tiga angka dari laga ini,” ujar Rahmad usai uji coba SUGBK, Selasa (2/10).

Sebelum kembali berlabuh ke Persija, Rahmad memoles SFC selama tiga musim. Ia sukses di Palembang dengan mempersembahkan gelar juara liga di musim kompetisi 2007-2008 serta trofi Piala Indonesia selama tiga musim berurutan.

Sayang torehan prestasi ini dianggap belum cukup bagi manajemen SFC yang kemudian memutus kontrak Rahmad setahun lebih cepat. Manajemen SFC kemudian mendatangkan Ivan Kolev sebagai pelatih tim berjuluk Laskar Wong Kito tersebut.

Kesempatan untuk membalas dendam terbuka saat Persija menghadapi SFC dalam lanjutan Djarum Indonesia Super League (DISL) 2010/2011 di Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno, Senayan, Rabu (3/10). Tidak hanya Rahmad, tujuh pemain Persija yang musim lalu membela SFC juga berkesempatan bahwa mantan klub mereka membuat keputusan keliru. Mereka adalah Tony Sucipto, Ambrizal, M Nasuha, Octavianus, I Gusti Nugrah Nana, Hendro Kartiko, Adritany, dan Precious Emujeraye.

Rahmad juga menegaskan bahwa ia juga telah melupakan kenangan indah meraih empat trofi bersama SFC.

“Dulu saya melatih Persikota selama tujuh musim. Saya melupakan semuanya saat SFC melawan Persikota. Sekarang juga seperti itu,” tegas Rahmad.

Ia memberi isyarat akan menampilkan permainan ofensif di laga ini. Kecemerlangan lini depan Persija yang diisi trio ABG (Aliyudin, Bambang Pamungkas, Greg Nwokolo) saat menggilas Persib 3-0 akhir pekan lalu akan kembali diandalkan Rahmad di laga ini.

“Kita harus bekerja keras untuk membongkar lini pertahanan SFC yang merupakan salah satu yang terbaik di LSI musim ini selain Persipura dan Persib. Kita juga harus mewaspadai serangan balik SFC yang sangat baik lewat kedua sayapnya,” kata Rahmad.

Di duel bigmatch ini, Persija kembali bermasalah di lini pertahanan. Gelandang bertahan Syamsul Chaerudin serta bek tengah Precious Emujeraye tidak dapat bermain karena akumulasi kartu. Sebagai gantinya, Rahmad mempersiapkan Toni Sucipto dan Agus Indra Kurniawan untuk mengisi tempat yang ditinggalkan Syamsul serta Ambrizal di posisi Precious. Ambrizal sudah dapat bermain setelah di laga sebelumnya absen akibat akumulasi kartu.

Ambrizal menegaskan kesiapannya menghadapi mantan klubnya. Ia mengatakan tidak ada pemain yang istimewa di kubu mantan klubnya saat ini termasuk penyerang andalan SFC, Keith Kayamba Gumbs.

“Kayamba bagus dan punya kecepatan, tapi dia tidak istimewa. Saya sudah siap menghadapi laga ini,” kata Ambrizal.

Macan Kemayoran, julukan Persija, punya rekor bagus di kandang menghadapi SFC. Dari empat kali laga, Persija hanya sekali tumbang pada Mei 2009. Selebihnya Persija selalu meraih tiga angka ketika bertindak sebagai tuan rumah.

Persija juga punya rekor bagus musim ini dengan selalu menang di tiga laga kandang. Macan Kemayoran mencetak tujuh gol dan belum pernah kebobolan. Kini ketangguhan kiper Hendro Kartiko akan kembali diuji oleh mantan klubnya.http://www.liga-indonesia.co.id

Padang - Persija Jakarta harus menerima kenyataan pahit tersungkur di Padang, setelah dikalahkan tuan rumah Semen Padang (SP) 1-0 pada laga lanjutan Djarum Indonesia Super League (DISL) 2010/2011 di Stadion H Agus Salim, Padang, Selasa (26/12). Kemenangan ini sekaligus memecahkan rekor tak terkalahkan Persija Jakarta di kompetisi DISL 2010/2011. Gol tunggal SP diciptakan Hengki Ardiles.

Dengan kemenangan ini, SP juga sukses mempertahankan rekor tak terkalahkan. Kini tinggal SP dan pemuncak sementara klasemen DISL, Persipura Jayapura yang belum pernah terkalahkan.

Tambahan tiga poin juga membuat tim besutan Nil Maizar ini berhasil merangsek ke posisi empat klasemen sementara dengan torehan 10 poin dari 4 laga yang telah dilakoni. Bagi Persija, kekalahan ini tetap tak menggusur posisi mereka di peringkat 3 klasemen sementara. Tim besutan Rahmad Darmawan ini juga mengoleksi 10 poin.
