The road to the final was a rocky one for City, needing replays to overcome Leicester City and Notts County before defeating Aston Villa, Reading and posting a memorable 1-0 win over bitter rivals Manchester United at Wembley in the semis.

Stoke needed a replay to beat Cardiff and then went on to eliminate Wolves, Brighton and West Ham.

In the semi-finals they put a highly regarded Bolton side to the sword, blasting five past them to show a trip to Wembley holds no fears for the Staffordshire outfit.

Stoke and Manchester City have played just once this season, with Matthew Etherington scoring a 90th-minute leveller to cancel out Micah Richards' opener for City last November.

Bizarrely, the two teams are set to square off again three days after the final in a rescheduled Premier League game at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Stoke have the bulk of the fitness concerns ahead of the big day.

Etherington has been missing since injuring a hamstring against Wolves last month, and defender Robert Huth has been receiving treatment in Spain after limping off with a knee injury against Arsenal.

Pulis is already without defender Danny Higginbotham and Ricardo Fuller with respective knee and Achilles problems.

Tevez's return mean Mancini has almost a full squad at his disposal, with only defender Jerome Boateng and goalkeeper Shay Given certain to miss out. (soccerway)

Carlos Tevez out of FA Cup semi-final

Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez will miss this Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final showdown with Manchester United.

Tevez’s participation at Wembley Stadium had been in major doubt since he was forced off with a hamstring injury in the early stages of the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool on Monday night.

And City boss Roberto Mancini has now confirmed the Argentina international will spend up to a month on the sidelines with the injury.

Mancini said: “Tevez is not available for Saturday.

“I think he will recover in three or four weeks. It is a big problem but we can't take any risks.
“After this game we have another six games and we hope to have Carlos maybe for the last two or three games, or the final if we make it.”

The absence of Tevez is a huge blow for City as they look to end a 35-year wait to lift a major trophy, but there was some good news for Mancini this week with Micah Richards returning to training following an hamstring injury that had initially threatened to rule him out of the semi-final.

Mancini continued: “Micah Richards is available. He trained two days ago and again (on Wednesday). He will be OK.

Kiper Manchester City, Joe Hart, mengungkapkan ia merasa takut kalau City berada dalam bahaya karena hanya menjadi tim nyaris meraih trofi juara jika mereka tidak bisa mendulang kesuksesan di musim ini.

Sampai pekan ke 21 Liga Inggris, United masih mempertahankan rekor tidak pernah kalah dalam kompetisi domestik, setelah pada pertandingan terakhir, mereka berhasil mengalahkan West Bromwich dengan skor 2-1. Pada pertandingan tersebut Rooney akhirnya mencetak gol perdana dia pada musim ini dalam bola hidup, dan 1 gol lagi dicetak oleh super-sub Hernandez.

Kemenangan tersebut membuat United tetap memuncaki klasemen sementara Liga Inggris dengan torehan 41 poin dari 19 pertandingan, di mana mereka masih memiliki 2 pertandingan yang belum dimainkan yakni bermain melawan Blackpool dan Chelsea.

Pada pertandingan melawan Stoke, United berhasil tampil cukup baik meskipun menurunkan sebagian pemain lapis kedua, dan Evra juga memuji penampilan dari Rooney dan Hernandez.

“Saya selalu merasa Hernandez akan mencetak gol setiap kali dia masuk ke lapangan. Ini sangat sulit untuk dipercaya,” kata Evra.

“Saya pikir dia ingin bermain di lebih banyak pertandingan lagi. Ketika anda bermain sepakbola, anda pasti ingin bermain di setiap pertandingan.”

“Saya juga sangat senang dengan gol Wayne. Dia pantas untuk mendapatkan gol karena dia telah bekerja keras dalam sesi latihan,” tambah dia.

“Dia menunjukkan karakter yang sesungguhnya ketika dia kembali ke dalam lapangan. Ini sangat bagus untuk Manchester United dan saya berharap Rooney bisa mencetak lebih banyak gol lagi.”

Dari segi pemain, Nani yang telah absen pada beberapa pertandingan terakhir karena mengalami cedera pinggang kemungkinan sudah fit untuk bisa diturunkan pada pertandingan ini. Sedangkan Rooney kemungkinan diistirahatkan pada pertandingan ini, setelah mengalami sedikit masalah pada engkelnya saat berhadapan dengan West Bromwich.

Di sisi tim tandang, Stoke baru saja meraih kemenangan 2-0 atas Everton di Britannia Stadium. Pada pertandingan tersebut, Kenwyne Jones berhasil mencetak gol pembuka untuk Stoke, sedangkan satu gol lagi tercipta oleh gol bunuh diri dari bek Everton Phil Jagielka.

Kemenangan tersebut berhasil mengangkat posisi  Stoke ke peringkat ke 8 klasemen sementara dengan torehan 27 poin dari 20 pertandingan yang telah dimainkan. Selain itu, kemenangan atas Everton juga  membuat mental dari anak asuh Tony Pullis kembali naik, setelah di pertandingan sebelumnya, mereka kalah dari Fulham dengan skor 0-2.

Dari 5 pertemuan terakhir kedua tim, United berhasil memenangi semuanya dan dalam 2 pertandingan yang dimainkan di Old Trafford, United berhasil mencetak 9 gol dan tidak kebobolan.
